Project Baseline is a global initiative in which divers around the world participate in monitoring to document changes in the ocean. In Puerto Madryn, ProyectoSub and PROAs coordinate this activity to monitor rocky reefs and sunken ships.

If you are a diver and interested in the sea, join this long-term global monitoring of rocky reefs and shipwrecks.
How can I participate?
If you go diving to the Folias Shipwreck, you will find signs like the one that appears in the photo. There are three of them located in different parts of the ship.
1. Photograph the sign: take a photo from a distance of 2 meters. You can use the rope tied to the sign as a reference (the “F” mark indicates the point 2 m away).
2. Measure the horizontal visibility: stretch the rope until the black and white disc on the sign is no longer visible. Count the marks on the rope: each one indicates 1 meter.
3. Help with maintenance: every time you dive, you can help by cleaning the signs. If you notice any damage, contact us.
What is it for?
If we can accumulate photos taken at the same points over time, we will be able to detect and document changes in the underwater environment. This generates visual evidence that non-divers can also understand, helping to measure what is happening in our seas.
