Come explore the rocky reefs of Patagonia, Argentina! Join our underwater mini lessons and meet the incredible creatures that inhabit the ocean.
Exploring the seabed is now possible without getting wet. For the first time in Argentina, the bottom of the Patagonian sea was broadcast live for students on board a boat, and on a delayed basis through YouTube. This program is designed so that school students can learn about our seabed.
This program includes sea exploration using a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) and a communicating diver. Thus, students can observe the bottom live from a screen on the boat without the need to dive.
During the exploration, a ProyectoSub biologist accompanies the students to tell them about what they are seeing. This way they can learn by seeing and know what species live in the sea beds near Puerto Madryn.
Through this activity we seek to publicize the places that few people can visit and thus promote their conservation.
An ROV is a vehicle that can be operated remotely and is connected to the control via a cable. It can move through the water column thanks to three motors and, at the same time, it shows us on a screen what its camera observes. They are also known as underwater drones. Thanks to the Science, Exploration and Education (SEE) initiative, today we have an ROV from the company SOFAR Ocean that we use for scientific and educational purposes.
